This whimsical French-made box from the Victorian era (ca1880) is quite an unusual treasure! The trinket box forms the shape of a 3-dimensional egg, which is nestled at the center of a woven "bird's nest" border. The egg is made of white satin opaline glass, which has frosted exterior, but is smoothly polished for a reflective finish on the interior. It rests within a coiled wirework frame made of brass, which has been gilded for a vibrant gold finish. A hinge allows the egg to open from the front, revealing a hollow interior where small jewels or trinkets could be stored inside.
